Suggested 6th Edition Bundle(s) for five player household ?
Father , three children (one not able to leave for Uni) & nephew are now all stuck in one location due to 2nd Covid lockdown .
Dad is an old time player & only just aware of 6th Edition . If they are available for shipping to semirural part of UK , what to order in £200-£250 range (up to about $300) of products would others suggest ? Mother is trying keep younger ones away from dreaded online screens as much as possible & many smallish 'items' for maximum flexibility & to maintain interests (boredom already took a huge toll in March-July). Thanks .

Re: Suggested 6th Edition Bundle(s) for five player household ?
First off, is that about $300 U.S. dollars including shipping and your import taxes, or a different amount?
The core game set is for four players. That should be $125 non-Kickstarter or Backerkit. It includes four dashboards and enough dice and counters for four players as well as enough cards for four players to each be able to have a copy of each card to use in the design. With 12 different miniatures, you can each play a variety of miniatures (note that the cards determine your build-the miniatures are just for playing). To add another 2 players, you're looking at the '$75 core game,' which is the 2-player set or one of the two player packs which say they are $40. The player packs are red/yellow and blue/green. Those give you five cars, 2 bases, 2 dashboards, and cards. I'd probably add a rules pack to the 'player packs' to ensure lots of dice and counters. You say five players, but the game is set for six. Based on the discussions at Fnordcon, playing a bunch of players in an event at a time will make it take longer. All five of you playing at once could make a game taking closer to 2.5 hours to finish barring a lot of bad rolls for one player. Point totals will make a big difference in play time for longer games--just like cost of vehicles did in prior editions. If everyone is running a cheap, easily destroyed vehicle, then the battle will be faster than if you have medium and higher cars that can take a few hits. Also, since the core set doesn't come with a playmat, consider those as an option to improve the game. The scale of older Car Wars material is such it won't work with the new models, which are about the size of Matchbox cars and similar toy cars.

No import taxes into UK (as far as I'm aware of ?) .
$125 + $75 & a playmate ordered & everyone seems happy with that . Including final shipping cost $300 budget appears spot on . Just hope it doesn't take too long to get delivered , but delays are expected at moment . Thanks guys & thanks from my friend too . Hope to visit them when virus risk is lower & see how it all looks in person !

Idea for six sets was two separate games could be played as needed . They have a large property - former farmhouse with defunct farmshop attached - & have had a couple of others gamers staying earlier in the year .

This is inaccurate. The game is designed for 2-4 players. There are four player colors and everything in the rules supports 2-4. The game was not designed for more than four players.

You could play with more than 4 players, but the core box supports 2, 3 or 4 players. Sorry for the confusion.

Note, not just the core box, but the game itself is designed for 2-4 players. In addition to down time there's ganging up concerns, for example.

Re: Suggested 6th Edition Bundle(s) for five player household ?
As Phil indicated, the game is definitely designed for four.
What follows is solely my own thoughts on playing with more and is not in any way official or anything like that. As others have mentioned, you'll need to pick up additional sets to get the dashboards and cards. One other item that you might consider getting is a set of the clear bases (for a "fifth color"). As to actual play... You will need a larger battlefield. Probably not too much larger though as you'll run out of table space (a black cloth covering a dining room table might work, or a couple of the mats). One of the things that was repeatedly observed from SJG's playtests with more than 4 players was that whomever went last got piled on and didn't even get a turn. To prevent this problem, I would recommend having some sort of an obstacle in the center of the battlefield so that players can't target all of the other cars. If not more than 3 other players can target any car at the start, it shouldn't be any worse than a 4-player match at the opening and players at least have a chance to react and decide how to deal with the attacks. I suspect as the game gets out into the wild, so to speak, that inventive groups of players will come up with their own ideas.
