Default Seven Words you can't say on a Forum

I keep hearing alot about how you're not supposed to use profanity on the SJGames forum. I've even heard there's a profanity filter, though I don't think I've seen it in action (and I have no intention of testing it).

I believe these people, and I note a distinct lack of foul mouths on SJGames. Whenever I accidentally post something on the crude side, I usually get a PM from someone asking I change it, and I generally oblige, though I note (again) no actual filter stopping it.

However, I can't actually find this policy in writing. I've done some searches, scoured the forum policy, hunted through stickies, and I'm starting to wonder if it's an actual policy, or if it's defunct, and the "culture" of it has stuck around.

Can someone point me to a link where it states that you should refrain from using profanity? My inability to find it is really bugging me.

And look, there it is.

I knew I'd find it if I looked long enough.

Sorry about that.

I'm curious as to what words the profanity filter blocks. Obviously, the list can't be posted here because every word on it will be blocked by the profanity filter, and I can think of one good and sufficient reason why the mods would want to keep its contents under wraps even if it could be posted. But I'm still curious...

It blocks the words generally considered too racy for PG(-13). If you don't plan to use any of those, then it doesn't matter what specific words it blocks.

For example: I know of at least two forum members that tried to use profanity in a casual friendly way in a PM to me - the profanity filter put asterisks in those particular words.

These two people figured if it was in a Private Message - that it wouldn't matter or get caught.

Wasn't there some innocuous normal word that the filter mistakenly edited a while back?

The filter is forum-wide; we don't have a way to exempt PMs.

Probably; no filter is absolutely perfect. In our opinion, those glitches are an acceptable risk of having the filter in place.

I don't know about "innocuous", but there was one foreign word in a title that I tried to post a while back that contained a word in the list - that part of the word got starred. (I hadn't noticed; there's a syllable break in the foreign word that made me completely miss the offending string.) I ended up translating the title into English and providing a link to a review of the work that gave the original title.

It can't handle s****** although the synonym snicker works just fine.

Normal words with swears inside them are filtered.
My invented race the Kada****es unfortunately has a four letter word in it.
Sad, but necessary for a modern imperfect program.

Yes, and I'm sure there are lots that this would happen with. Off the top of my head the surname Lip****z, for instance.
