How long does this take to happen? It a combat action, or a drawn out scene speed (like in the movie referenced)?

You know, I assumed a one-second occurrence - but you could add Time Spent to this roll if you wanted. So the scene between Wesley and Humperdink is probably worth a +3 or so to Wesley's roll.

Love it, and it will probably get used in my campaign soon; one of the PCs specializes in Intimidation and being heavily armed, and has some questions to ask that a dead man might not be able to answer.

Designer's Notes: Purveyors of the Priceless

Today is GURPS-Day and (yet another) of my Pyramid articles came out today. This was something pretty far out of my wheelhouse, but I enjoyed writing it. Also I don't really like being stereotyped and I'm constantly trying to diversify my material. Anyways, here's my Designer's Notes for Purveyors of the Priceless.

Designer's Notes: Magic Bullets

I'm late. I'm sorry. Yesterday was really hectic for me. Have some Designer's Notes - short and sweet with no outtakes, but still Designer's Notes.

Gamemaster's Guidepost: The Three Ring Circus - The Malefactors

Today is GURPS-Day and today I'm riffing off something that came up on the blogosphere: tabletalk and ruleslawyering. How do you deal with it? Well, I've expanded it a bit to talk about the three main malefactors of gaming: the rules-lawyer, the meta-gamer, and the munchkin.

Ow. I was reading the symptoms of the malefactors and found some strong elements of both the Munchkin and the Rules-Lawyer in myself. I think I'm a benign munchkin though. I don't know if I drive people away from my games though -- I've always assumed people just dropped out. I do play by post and people usually drop off the forum entirely.

We can all find symptoms in ourselves if we look hard enough - as I noted in the munchkin entry I have such tendencies myself. The thing with the big three in my experience is they do it because they know it will disrupt the game. The only exception is the unintentional meta-gamer - he's often the type that is a casual gamer (what I call a "part-time" or "drop-in" gamer) and isn't as into the RPG as others might be. Because of this he ends up using out of game knowledge. He's not malicious.
