GURPS at GenCon - Any visibility?
Not just from SJG (which I gather was concentrating on Munchkin) but at the tables? Any one run GURPS, play GURPS, Mention GURPS at panels etc?
Just what was the signature of GURPS at this GenCon?

Re: GURPS at GenCon - Any visibility?
Of course SJGames was demoing DFRPG combat all GenCon...so that was a big level of visibility on their end. I didn't check out the demo, because I never had time...and I know how to do GURPS combat.
I was in a GURPS game not connected to SJGames that was a sort of riff on Romeo and Juliet. It was excellent. |

Re: GURPS at GenCon - Any visibility?
Well, Christopher Rice ran in and/or played in a lot of GURPS games, mostly GURPS DF from the sounds of things, so it seems there was actually quite a GURPS presence. I get the impression a lot of people bought GURPS DF products too, or at least I saw some pictures of it and now we're getting reviews of them.

I don't think DF was being sold, but it was being demo'd and there were things to look at.

It could be people are reviewing their backer PDFs

The DFRPG box was not on sale, but it appears that the backers who paid for the "play a game with Kromm" level got their sets early, and, yes, there are people reviewing the PDFs.

And pre-ordered. That was a big enough thing that some folks were playing the demo game and pre-ordering them on the spot.

There was one GURPS newbie at our game table who seemed to like it--but our game was definitely not DF |

Re: GURPS at GenCon - Any visibility?
Well good for SJG to be flogging the DFRPG demo.
Pick-up games we can get some self reporting on. I would like to see if we can get some idea of how many, if any, GURPS games were in the schedule? How many of those actually came off? Were they accessible by the public that wasn't playing the game? Did anyone's game draw spectators? ETA - and Mook has answered before I asked - teach me to leave a draft up and then submit hours later without reviewing! So a few dozens get to play and I suspect that not a lot of people hang around a table kibitzing just to see how it goes.

We had one standing table dedicated to a short combat demo, and I saw it full more often than not.
