Does ramming with a vehicle take a speed penalty?
An oddity I noticed when looking at the rules for ballistic attacks in Spaceships: as far as I can tell, the standard way to handle ramming with a vehicle in GURPS is with the slam rules. (The section on slams in Campaigns is explicit that "You can also slam with a vehicle or mount", B371.) And slams, as far as I can tell, do not take a penalty for target speed, or relative speed, or anything like that. However, in Spaceships ramming uses most of the rules for a ballistic attack, including penalties for relative speed. Even stranger, though, is that penalties for relative speed don't happen until you're going faster than 1 mile per second. At 0.3 mps or slower, you actually get a bonus. Normally, if you're applying speed penalties and the target is moving at 1 mps, that's a -17 penalty. So Spaceships is acting as if vehicular ramming takes a speed penalty but gets a +17 bonus, for some reason. Can anyone make sense of that? I can definitely see the case, on realism grounds, for "slams should take a speed penalty", but Spaceships seems to go about it in a very weird way.

Re: Does ramming with a vehicle take a speed penalty?
Because spaceships use a 20-second turn, have really advanced targeting computers, and are really big objects to swat something with. If you are hitting something with a 100 yard wide hammer at over 1 mps, it really does not matter which specific yard you are hitting, it is going to hurt, and accuracy becomes an academic issue.

One could assume a similar adjustment for handling applies. Though that might seem weird for every other application of handling...

However, it doesn't make much sense for a ship ram to get a +18+hnd accuracy bonus.
