[Grenades] Collateral Damage Area of Effect
Howdy Folks,
I have a question of minutiae, overthinking, and reading comprehension... must be Thursday! So, p. 414, under "Explosions," says, "...an explosion inflicts 'collateral damage' on everything within (2 x dice of damage) yards. For instance, if an explosion does 6dx2 damage, everyone within 24 yards is vulnerable..." [emphasis mine] I have always read this as "2 x 6dx2 = 12 yards," "2 x 6dx4 = 12 yards," etc. The "...within 24 yards..." part of the example was referring to, I thought, the total number of yards (i.e., if 12 yards is the threatened 'radius,' then 24 yards is the threatened 'diameter'). It has been suggested to me that this is incorrect, and that the correct way of figuring is "2 x 6dx2 = 2 x 12d = 24 yards," "2 x 6dx4 = 2 x 24d = 48 yards," etc. Which, now that I see it, does make sense, even though to me "dice of damage" wouldn't include the multiplier (i.e., 6dx2 isn't the same as 12d). Have I been in error lo these many moons? And, if so, am I the only one? Don't be shy, I don't want to be the only if I've been doing it wrong. :)

Re: [Grenades] Collateral Damage Area of Effect
The multiplier is just a quicker way to do the same basic roll, so 24 yards for 6dx2 exp is correct.
So, an attack that got +1 per die would add 12 damage, not 6 to the 6dx2 attack because really, that's a 12d attack. I think this is explicitly stated somewhere, but I don't have the ability to find it right now.

An explosion with 6d×100 will probably not have a 24yd diameter, but 1200—as I read it anyway

6d*2 is 12 dice of damage in all respects.
Within X meters always means a radius, not a diameter, of X meters. (Consider: 'This damages everyone within 24 meters!' 'I'm 14 meters away and it didn't touch me...' 'Exactly!' 'Uh....')

Re: [Grenades] Collateral Damage Area of Effect
Fair enough, thanks for the responses, all. I am updating notes as we speak!
P. 378 has, "High-damage attacks may express damage as a number of dice with a multiplier... This is just a quick way to roll lots of dice." Personally, I'd rather see a 40d attack written as 40d, and I can figure out for myself whether I want to roll 4dx10, or 8dx5, or 10dx4, but I imagine I'm in the minority on that one. I will somehow make do. Appreciate the quick replies, they were very helpful.

Re: [Grenades] Collateral Damage Area of Effect
The few times my group(s) has messed with explosives in game, I ended up creating a spreadsheet to manage the maths. It's pretty simple, but generally helpful.
