I am confused about selling treasure for gold to go up levels? Do I sell it during my turn and throw away the card? Or does it have to be sold to a person? Or do I have to do it in a room that says I can sell treasure?

You sell it on your turn, and the treasure goes into the discards.

You don't sell treasure for gold and then spend the gold. The gold value of each treasure you sell counts toward the 1,000 needed for a level.

You can sell items and actual gold pieces to go up levels. If you sell, say an item worth 600 gold and sell a 500 gold piece you would get 100 gold in change. If you only sell items, though, you would not get change if you exceed 1000 gold.

Yes, that's what I meant. To complete the comparison, selling an Item worth 600 Gold Pieces and one worth 500 Gold Pieces will only give you the level, not the 100 Gold Pieces change.

Not true in Munchkin Quest. You can get change.

Not when you're ONLY selling items. Clipper is correct. See p. 15 of the MQ rules.
