Running away during fight
I enter a unexplored room and have to fight a monster. If decide I cannot beat it and decide to run away instead, do I turn over a heart? Or do I just roll the dice to see if I run away?

Re: Running away during fight
You automatically turn over a heart. Then you roll. If you succeed, move into an adjacent room with no further effects. If you fail, suffer the monster's Bad Stuff (but you still get to move to the next room).

Re: Running away during fight
So I would automatically turn over a heart whether I fight the monster or not?

Re: Running away during fight
Only if you lose. If you win, or the monster ignores you, your hearts will go on. (I am so sorry.)

Re: Running away during fight
Ok, so if I choose not to fight and run I don't lose a heart. However I would lose a heart if I don't roll a 5 or 6 when I run away and don't get any bad stuff.

You cannot choose to ignore such a fight when they don't ignore you. If you win the combat, you won't flip a Health token. If you lose the combat, you flip one Health token for each monster in the fight immediately. If you survive that, then you roll to Run Away from each monster separately. You will lose another Health token if you fail the Run Away roll and a monster's Bad Stuff does not affect you.

Re: Running away during fight
So if the monster does not ignore me I MUST fight it even if it could be stronger than me.
Also, is there a way to see your flowchart? |

Re: Running away during fight
I saw this quote by munchkin man in the 101 forum which is the basis of my original question. If there is no mathematical way you can win the fight and chose to run instead of fighting, do you still turn over a heart eventhough the dice were never rolled?
"As much as the game is supposed to represent the munchkin style of playing RPGs in a card game, it's still a card game with its own rules. If you can't win, you can try to get help, or you can Run Away, but you can't just willingly choose to suffer the Bad Stuff even though in an RPG you might decide to hang in there and possibly die, basically because that's what the rules say. Re: Running away during fight
Yes, since you were in combat. You can not choose to avoid a fight with a Monster or group of Monsters that will fight you by deciding you couldn't possibly win. Be advised, however, that the Munchkin 101 forum is for the Munchkin card games, not Munchkin Quest. There are some minor and some significant differences between the card and board games.
