This is why we need a semi-official GURPS wiki- it took me 20 minutes of searching to find this piece of info hidden away in a 3 year old thread on a slightly different topic, and I was lucky this time- many other times it's taken longer or I've come up empty.

I'd back someone else's suggestion that SJG hosts the wiki, so that there's a baseline of consistency and coherence to the effort, but I can see why they might also have reservations about doing so (main one being limited personnel and resources).

It would be a perfect depositary for user-made templates, vehicles and spaceships, martial arts and magical styles, and the plethora of house-rules, as well as rulings and other stuff from the keyboards of Kromm, RK, and others, but would be more browsable, searchable and indexable than the forums.

As it is there's a few different wikis out there, but any time I've visited them I've seen tumbleweeds, and their content is patchy and spread between them. A semi-official wiki would be the one place everyone goes, and would theoretically be regularly updated with stuff from the forums.

Yep, I know about them, and probably the rulings and interpretations of RAW belong in there, but most of the useful info, such as the Kromm post I linked or user-made content, would be outside the purview of a FAQ.

For SJG to start one from scratch would mean a lot of administrative effort expended on something that might or might not ever prove worthwhile. On the other hand, if a group of fans manage to create something of obvious usefulness, SJG might decide to designate it as semi-official in some way. (Maybe comparable to GURPSland. It's a fan-created, fan-run website, but SJG has named Eric as the official GURPS Data File Coordinator.)

So, with that in mind, I think the only thing to do is to sweep away the tumbleweeds and get to work. this wiki had 99 articles on November 4th, and now it has 222, so it's growing at a little more than one article a day. I have been concentrating on writing articles for advantages, disadvantages, and skills, mostly as a reference for what books have information on them and what Kromm has had to say about them. It's slow going, so coverage extends only partway through the letter C. I would be delighted if anyone wanted to join the effort, or offer feedback, or start a different project, or help out in any other way.

I agree, would greatly add to my gurps experience, theres so much excelent content on this forums, and sometimes digging thro it can be frustrating (but endlessly rewarding!)

It would definitely be useful to have one semi-official place to go to for all your GURPS needs. Maybe we could make an effort to improve one of the existing ones. If only I wasn't doing my master's thesis right now.

Does anybody know what happened to www.gurpswiki.net? I used it quite a bit four or five years ago, but now I can only find a cached version (link). It did have some neat template conversions for 4th Edition.

I build a offline wiki on my laptop but the problem is it contains rules details (not just house rules) where i'm sure, it will be a violation of right putting it online.
