Wikipedia is not THE source but we really aren't 100% sure yet what the thing was used for. You are probably correct but who really knows. The only thing I am quite sure about is it wasn't used to signal U.F.O's ;)

Regardless of that a book (well PDF) of spec tech would be keen. Oh one more question, just out of curiosity, did the piston fire starter make it. It was HT3e IIRC

I had thought there was still some possibility that they were used to plate metals.

That's what I was thinking of when I posted that, although apparently experiments have shown that a large number of them is necessary for even a very thin plating, making this not particularly likely.

I don't believe it. The careful descriptions indicated that there was a solid ceramic partition in between the two different metals. You don't make a battery with a layer of insulator separating the anode and cathode. After reading about that, I was persuaded that the likeliest theory was the scroll case theory. Too bad; I would have liked to keep the battery theory.

This is my opinion too.

Would it be too much to ask that the book comes leather bound?

Yes, it would.

If I have to write the whole thing out, it's going to cost you several thousand dollars. And rather more than that if you expect to be able to read my handwriting. I don't even use a typewriter any more. . . .
