I'm assuming it's some sort of "introductory set". But, how it differs form the starters I can't fathom, as the starters seem to have everything an "introductory set" would have for the game.

Maybe new form factor for big box retail?
That's my guess as well.

I'm just hoping it won't be something that makes me wish I hadn't bought all the starters separately already (though at this point I actually haven't because my shop still hasn't managed to get any).

In fact, given that they don't know when they WILL have starters for me, it might be nice to know exactly what this Introductory set IS, so I can decide whether to tell them to just forget about it, and get me the Introductory set instead.

Starters are a different beast. The Introductory Set, which will be revealed in a few weeks, offers a different path into the game. If you have all three starters, you won't be missing any gameplay options by skipping the Introductory Set.

We'll have more news in a few weeks.
