Default What to do with "extra" Class cards

Hi again friends,

I started in the world of Munchkin about 2 months ago, and received my Munchkin Deluxe box last week and It came without the yellow pawn in the sealed bag :(

But haven't had the time to play many games, and when I do it's usually with people that I'm introducing to the game, so many questions are posed during a game... In today's game these were the questions:

1- Race and Class (and I guess Mojo for Munchkin Zombies) that I don't have in play because I already have one of each in play can be put down sideways on the table indicating that they are not in use? Or do they have to be in the hand?

2- Related to the first question, does it work the same way for Powers in Zombies? I ask because you can have as many powers in play as long as that there combined rank isn't greater than your level, so can we put down Powers sideways on the table and activate them when we reach the level that allows us to do so? Or do we have to keep the Powers in the hand and only play them when we can use them?
And what if I'm using Powers equal to my level and I lose a level, do I put the power card that I choose not to use to respect the power rank rule sideways and then activate the power again when I gain a level or do I have to discard it?

3- The same question for when a curse is played that I have to lose my Race or Class, the items that are used only by that Race/Class are put sideways or do they get discarded?

Sadly, we can't help with that. You should send an e-mail to orders@warehouse23.com and you might find them significantly more helpful.

They have to be kept in your hand. Nothing in the rules allows you to "carry" extra, unused Races, Classes, Mojos, or other, similar cards. The rules also state that you may only have one Race, one Class, one Mojo, etc. in play, and that's firm, at least until a card comes along to "break" that rule, such as Half Breed. One thing that is important to remember is that the rules spend more time trying to tell you what you're allowed to do, so that's why they make the point that you can carry any number of small Items, keeping those you are not using turned sideways. That they never mention the same for Races, Classes, Mojos, Monster Enhancers, etc. should be understood to mean that you can not do those things.

Any Powers you can not use must remain in your hand. The rules are pretty explicit about this: "You may not play Powers that you cannot legally use," which means you can't put into play, or keep in play a Power you can not use, whether because the Ranks would push you over the limit, or because of a Race/Class/Mojo/gender/etc. restriction.

From the rules: "If your Level goes down to less than the total Rank of your Powers, you must discard some Powers so that their total Rank is once again less than or equal to your Level." As I said above, you can't keep in play a Power you can not use.

The rules explain that you can keep any number of Items in play, and that you can carry Items that are not allowed to be used by your Race/Class/etc., so if you lose a Race or Class that allows you to use a specific Item, you can still keep the Item, you just can't use it anymore and have to turn it sideways.

In this situation do we have to discard or can we put it in our hand?

Thanks again Erik :)

Except when a card explicitly says otherwise, you may NEVER return a card from the table to your hand.
