Re: Character Names that haunt you
Ah, my Car Wars character, "Trigger Happy."
What can I say, I was young.

Re: Character Names that haunt you
When I was first running games as a high-schooler (has it *really* been twenty-five years?) I was running a home-brew based on D&D. We rolled 4-keep-3 for stats, in order, and rolling up a new character was not terribly uncommon. (Some of those players claim to this day that I'd randomly kill off PCs whenever I got hungry and dispatch the disaffected player on a burger run. That's not how I recall it, but it still gives them joy to tell the stories that way.)
In any event, one of the players was rolling up a new character and he was rolling pretty well: 17 for strength, 14 Dex, 15 con...and then the dice for int came down: 1-1-1-1. A natural 3. The player made the character a barbarian, but couldn't come up with a name. I kept asking "What is this guy's name?" and he kept saying "I don't know!" And thus was born Ahdonoe the Barbarian.

One of my first characters I named Sir Brownhead. Still makes me think of an icky pimple more than a man.

Re: Character Names that haunt you
Not quite a character name, but still in keeping with the OP...
I was playing in a D&D campaign for a couple years during/after college (2nd ed. had just come out). The PCs decided we'd accomplished several notable deeds and should come up with a group name, something heroic, noble, and strong sounding, something to put fear into our enemies and lend courage to our allies. After much thought we came up with... The Band of the Ripping Wind. We declared that to be our name and spread word of it far and wide across the land ... ... only to have a roommate walk in, hear our name and say "you named yourself after a fart?" My only saving grace is that I'm not the one who proposed it in the first place, but I'm ashamed to say I was just as enthusiastic as the rest of the players at the idea... We quickly changed it to the Band of the Gathering Storm and and claimed the original name was bad PR spread by our enemies... |

Re: Character Names that haunt you
A centaur from a low-tech Germanic culture who had become interested in natural science and had studied the books of the surrounding human culture: Nahrungsmittelspieler Anstattessen ("Plays with his Food before eating It").
When I wrote up a GURPS character who was deliberately as unmodelable as possible in a class-and-level system, I called this jack-of-all-trades Jack. An upstanding Coalition lieutenant whose parents were enthusiastic supporters of the regime was Marshall Law. And finally, there was my halfling, Baker Harabine. With, of course, Profession (Baker). "Generational profession. Honored family name. What?" |

Re: Character Names that haunt you
Oh, and I should add that, of course, we shortened the centaur's name in-game. The other PCs called him Spieler.
Thus, I had a character named Player. |

Will: You forgot your original Rifts character, Will Robinson.
