"crawling hand"
First of all, forgive my approximative description of the monster.
I have the French version of the game, and it is called "la main balladeuse", which could mean "crawling hand". The card says that if you give it 500 gold pieces, it becomes your small companion and adds a hand toi your character. My question is : if I "buy" the "crawling hand", do I still get the 1 Treasure he was guarding or not ?

Re: "crawling hand"
I was sure about the level not gained (one must kill the beast), but not about the treasure.

Re: "crawling hand"
I have re-read the card.
No mention of not being allowed to get the treasury is on it. Under the "If You Win" rule, the first paragraph (p. 9) says : "If you win, you have defeated the monster. This usually means you killed it messily, though some monsters have special “don’t kill me” rules." Would that latter precision indicate that you benefit from the same consequences as after killing a monster in special cases where the monster doesn't need to be killed ? Now, I reckon that one cannot go one level if one doesn't kill... But isn't "taming" the "crawling hand" a way to defeat the Monster (through corruption) - thus allowing one to still get his treasure? I beg your pardon for pushing further the question : not trying to annoy anyone. Just trying to catch the rationale of the rules - and, of course, I am fully ready to accept that one cannot get that treasure, when I figure out the logics that lead to such a conclusion...

To the initial question: you don't get the Treasure. Instead, you get a new Hand.
