Default GURPS Magic Feedback - No Resist on Crit

I'm just looking for a general feedback and consensus on the rule within Magic RAW that a spell which critically succeeds automatically takes effect without resistance roll.

GURPS 4th says you cannot remove someone's resistance roll so this seems to break that paradigm.

Has anyone played without this rule? Do things seem fine? Did you replace the rule with something else?

A specific rule always trumps a general rule. Additionally, this looks to be one of those little things that came through from 3rd Edition.

I don't usually mind the rule, as it is applied equally to all characters. It's never come up as being a problem.

I have never actually noticed this rule. We do not play with it, we use the normal Basic Set rules that critically succeeding doesn't do anything interesting to contests, per ce (resistance rolls are a kind of contest after all).

Having had it pointed out, I have no intention of playing with it either. No, just... no.

We don't "replace" it, but we do use the table from Thaumatology to guide critical success effects so you might consider that a replacement.
It wasn't a deliberate attempt to replace, though.

My house rule for crit successes on magic that the spell is free. Resistance operates normally.

Citation? You can't remove it via Cosmic, but unless specified otherwise, an ability is not required to have a resistance roll at all.

If you roll a crit sucess to hit with a weapon, there is no active defense allowed. So the no resistance rule for spells seems fair and consistent.

Not what I was asking for a citation for. I was asking for the source of 'GURPS 4th says you cannot remove someone's resistance roll'.
