thief using backstab as threat
Hi
here is the scenario player A is in combat, he has 9 levels of power, his opponent is a monster level 8 so he should win, the monster is worth 2 treasures players B and C don't have any cards to alter the fight but player B is a thief and says: "give me one of the two treasures at random or I will backstab you" player A doesn't have any cards to help him so he accept the deal player A takes the first treasure card face down and gives it to player B and keep the second treasure card face down. is that played correctly ? I think that it's not but I need backup We also had the same situation in another game but that time it was not a thief but a player who had a potion in play and was threatening to alter fights with it. thanks |

Re: thief using backstab as threat
No. The only way a player can share in the Treasures is to join the fight as Helper, and then the Treasures would be face up.

Re: thief using backstab as threat
We only just started playing but I don't see why threats would be disallowed?
As soon as any treasure is agreed to be shared I guess it should be face-up? I am not saying this is an official ruling but there is nothing wrong with threatening, adds a new dynamic. Besides, you can always threaten back that if they did back-stab, you will simply ask for help from one of the other players. Seems very Munchkin-ey to me? |

Re: thief using backstab as threat
Threatening is fine, but there are other ways to resolve it. I didn't want to get into it in the 101 forums. I was just explaining why that method doesn't work. I'll let a moderator get as deep into it as they want.

Arh fair enough; Sorry yeah - I just read the 101 rules - they are for very simple gameplay rules rather than dynamics or variations - apologies for being awkward :).

Re: thief using backstab as threat
There's nothing wrong with the threat as such. However, the only way you can claim a Treasure immediately after a fight is to be an official helper who actually joins the combat. Otherwise, what you'd have to say is "Give me that Item you already have in play when the combat is over or I'll backstab you." Or, I guess, "If one of the two Treasures is an Item I can use, put it in play and give it to me when the combat is over."
