rapid-fire archery
Here's a nifty video of an archer rapid-firing arrows from a back-quiver.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...&v=1o9RGnujlkI Looks like she manages a sustained rate of fire of about 1 shot per second. |

Interesting to know what the draw is on that bow...

This guy claims to have a world record for speed archery, true or not, he has an impressive RoF.

Re: rapid-fire archery
She doesn't seem to be pointing the bow-arm shoulder to the target, which means she is relying mostly on arm- rather than back-strength.
She is also bending her bow-arm rather than keeping it straight while dipping the bow down to her waist and up again for each shot. Given her technique, I suspect the draw weight is low. 60 lb, maybe? |

Re: rapid-fire archery
At my best I had a rate of fire of about one per second with a 65lbs. bow (35 arrows in about 30 seconds). But that was almost 20 years ago now (were the early 90s that long ago?). This was shooting at a paper plate at about 30 feet.
I won a few SCA speed shooting competitions with that bow. I couldn't quite get half as fast with my 90lbs. bow however. Edited to add range.

Re: rapid-fire archery
Using Fast-Draw(Arrow) and GURPS Martial Arts Quick-Shooting Bows p.119-200 you can fire 1 per second, but it takes 3 rolls
You need to take an Attack or All out Attack (Determined) maneuver
Weapon Master (Bow) and/or Heroic Archer will modify this a bit |

Re: rapid-fire archery
Looks like about 1.5 seconds per arrow in the video.
I couldn't tell much about accuracy just from watching. Quote:
