Michael embarks on a mind reading spree. He starts by reading one each of each type of behaviour, then compares the processes of two people in 'statue' mode.

Michael's efforts come up with a few interesting details. Mostly these are to do with the fact that the people who have stopped don't appear to be worried by being stopped, or even think that it's particularly strange that they are, any more than a person on a day off might know that they need to get up and do stuff but not be able to make the effort. Some of this lot have been standing here for a couple of hours without moving, but any concerns that they have about work that needs to be done appear to be somewhat detached from them as if they are definitely engaged in something far more important than the work that they had been doing.

Everyone around them seems to share that opinion: what these people are doing doesn't exactly make sense but is very clearly important.

Unfortunately, Michael can't immediately understand what is going on or precisely what is making this so important to them. Perhaps some experimentation so that you have a clearer picture of the limits of this?

Michael tries a couple of changes:

first, he goes up to someone (frozen) and asks for the time
second, he goes up to someone else (frozen) and asks them where they are going, and if they would please move a foot to the left, so he can get a proper picture.
third, he goes up to another "frozen" worker and shoves him out of his place.

Through all of this he observes the mental changes in his 'subject'.

Michael's observations of these subjects produces the same basic results: each one is conscious and aware, but clearly is certain that they should be standing still. The one asked for the time makes a rough mental guess and even notes the position of a clock just out of her line of sight, but restrains an instinctive impulse to look at the clock or answer. The one who is asked to move dismisses the idea of doing so because he obviously needs to stay where he is. The third stumbles when pushed, has a flash of annoyance, but comes to a halt frozen in a semi-comfortable position as soon as she is able to, grumbling mentally about people interfering in important business.

Michael draws some attention from the people in the room who are still moving while he does all of this, but no one overtly comments about it.

Michael grumbles to himself. He was hoping to figure out more. Perhaps if he changed their priorities -- gave one of them an overwhelming compulsion to stay out of crowded spaces, for example. He doesn't think eight would like the time expenditure, but is the highest composite of three primes going to be bothered by anything?

(If the fundamentals in charge are the primes, presumably the prime numbers, and we assume smaller numbers are more important, it must be grating for anything with a spark of jealousy or ambition to be the first third tier number. Or so Michael supposes).

There are things that can be done quicker. Michael fires off a few telepathic suggests at the frozen people.

"Go to the bathroom"
"Take a nap"
"Recite a poem"
"Quit your job"
"Attack your co-worker"

The grand total of Michael's efforts is that the person he tells to go to the bathroom does go, the person he tells to take a nap does nothing, we get an abrupt poetry recital (in what sounds like Russian), the person who is meant to quit walks across the room and demands a pay rise from one of the people still standing still, and the person he told to attack a co-worker does nothing. Michael can tell that the second and fifth failed because he wasn't able to get inside their mind's properly, but nothing else is obvious.

Both Leo and Codina note a flicker of some kind, similar to the one that they noted when you disrupted things in the archive. It's not at the same level yet, but there's clearly something going on.

"Do you think you can give them a push and convince them that they should discuss amongst themselves their experience here was all about and what it felt like? Maybe we can get them to help us figure this out."
