Default Throwing Axe Enchanting

My searches have failed to turn up an answer. It seems as though a throwing axe is classified as a missile, at least, that's what M65 says under quick aim. Am I right in saying that a throwing axe can take accuracy and puissance at missile costs, and still be used in melee?

Only if you want those enchantments to not apply to the use in melee.

I would have assumed missiles get a price cut due to only being used once. So sure, you're throwing axe can get a one shot use for missile prices. :)

That's the right of it.

If you want permanent, you'd best go with the higher Missile cost. Personally, I'd let the much shorter range compensate for allowing the enchantment to apply in melee as well.

I think you might have meant Ranged Weapon at some point here

Just so.

Apologies.

People have said this, but there's nothing in the rules that says the missile loses it's enchantments if it survives and can be reused (and yes, this makes magic javelins better than magic arrows which are better than magic bullets; on the other hand more generally bullets are better than arrows which are better than javelins...).

I get that, but I assume in most games recovering them is a rarity. Even when it is an option, the hassle and one use per encounter seems enough to cover the discount.
It might be from how Missile spells placed on ammo are expended on use and then extended to all vaguely similar enchantments.

For throwing axes, I would think not recovering them is the rarity.

For arrows, I just roll 1d6 and they break on a 5 or 6 (Cheap arrows add +1 to the roll, Fine -1 and Very Fine -2, +1 for every 5 DR they struck) and then allow a Per based Bow-4 roll to find Margin of Success arrows from those that missed, after 10 minutes of searching (arrows stuck in the enemy don't require a roll).

IMO, this is where the discount comes from.

What with Spell Arrow? That's a very niche usage (and post-dates the missile discount in the history of GURPS spells besides).
