Ok, that explains that. I'll still put other releases in the hope for, but dont hold your breath category.

This is pretty much entirely inaccurate. Please don't comment about licensing unless you actually work for SJ Games and deal with that licensing directly. Careless comments such as this one could cause us embarrassing misunderstandings down the road.

http://www.warehouse23.com/products/...-8-limitations

BTW, don't skim over the Alternative Abilities section. Read it carefully, and you'll spot some fairly in-depth changes and clarifications.

So can you explain those crazy hints you gave before? I figured out it was "limitations," but I still don't understand how all those hints fit in with that.

I'm planning on buying it tonight.

But whenever I read through disadvantages, I wonder "how can people play characters with these crushing flaws?"

Does this book go into that?

The trick is to find the ones that aren't crushing, for that character, but fit naturally into their personality. The disadvantages are still limiting, but they're limits that you can live with.

In one word: No.

Limitations are modifiers that limit an ability while reducing its cost.

Ahhhh...

Was confusing disadvantage with limitation.

Thanks!

Still buying it, though. :-P

Certainly!

1. The number 8 is appropriate NOTATIONALLY, in that the figure 8 itself has a certain property that fits the theme.
Turn an 8 onto its side and you get infinity. Since literally "flipping" an 8 just produces itself, turning it onto its side is the most "opposed" transformation that you can do via simple rotation.

In other words, "PU8 (limitations) = the opposite of infinity."

Quote:
2. Also HISTORICALLY, in that there's an olde tyme fact or saying involving "eight" that meshes well with this book.
Arrrrgh, maties, surely ye have heard of "pieces of eight"! And what be limitations, but a way ta break abilities down, a piece atta time?

Quote:
3. And MATHEMATICALLY, in that "8" has a specific (appropriate) property shared by no other single digit.
8 is the largest single digit that can be factored into nothing but the smallest non-1 prime (2*2*2). In other words, it reduces perfectly -- just like limitations!

Quote:
4. Finally, PSEUDO-MATHEMATICALLY, in that if the #GURPS title is rephrased a certain way, it makes a shocking amount of sense.
A book about limitations is certainly a spiritual successor to a book about enhancements, right? So how fitting is it that GURPS Power-Ups 8 could also be phrased as GURPS Power-Ups 4(2)?

Some were a stretch, but I think that taken as a whole, it's pretty neat how it all worked out. :)
