Thief stolen cards go in hand or remain in play?
Are the cards stolen with a thief taken into the thief player's hand or kept out in play?

Kept in play. Anything that lets you take a card back into your hand will say so specifically, in general cards don't go back into your hand once played.

Yeah, the Thief steals Items, not cards, so they stay in play unless something says otherwise. This distinction is important for things like looting due to a Munchkin's death as those cards do go into the looters' hands, despite it not specifically saying so.
