Re: GURPS Forum Abbreviations: help the newbies?

A few from a survivalist forum I'm on which could be useful as generic gaming ones: SHTF: Organic fertilizer strikes the rotary ventilation device (Things are bad, but localized) EOTWAWKI: End Of The World As We Know It (Things are bad everywhere) BOB: Bug Out Bag (Gear & chow for the three days it'll take for help to arrive after the SHTF.) BOL: Bug Out Location (Where you bug out to) BOV: Bug Out Vehicle (What you bug out in) BOx: Bug Out (Noun), where the noun is something related to getting out of dodge when things go bad. Has been known to get rather silly with things like BOAT for "Bug Out Altoid Tin" for a homemade mini survival kit. BUG: Back-Up Gun FAK: First Aid Kit INCH Bag: I'm Never Coming Home Bag (For when it's the EOTWAWKI, and help won't be coming in three days...)

"IDHMBWM" could get trimmed down to "AFB" (Away From Books).

Re: GURPS Forum Abbreviations: help the newbies?
AFB is an obscure acronym used by new forumites. ;)
I added IDHMBWM because people actually use it. |

You could add this one to the list:
CotN (Creatures of the Night) :) ---Scott P.S. Is there an established abbreviation for Psionic Powers or Pyramid magazine? |

Re: GURPS Forum Abbreviations: help the newbies?
On Metafilter, this one comes up a lot:
tl;dr (too long; didn't read) Has that abbreviation appeared in these forums yet? Maybe it has in the general discussion section. Two that came up during the playtest for GURPS Horror, Fourth Edition: GH4e KH (Ken Hite) The former is longer than "GH" or "H," but it's easier to decipher. The latter isn't really necessary, but it signifies Ken's status among GURPS fans. ---Scott |

yes and the person got told off. This is one that is not used here, simple because the behaviour it represents is not condoned.

Re: GURPS Forum Abbreviations: help the newbies?
I've never heard any of them used on forums at all (and I've been on a lot of forums).
I've never heard them use at all before.

Re: GURPS Forum Abbreviations: help the newbies?
I thought "TL,DR" meant "Too long, didn't read" and was typically posted to snarkily complain about someone else's wall of text. However lately I'm seeing it more and more outside of that context like here. What is that supposed to mean?
