Default Strange Combos

If you are a gnome and you use the illusion ability to give you a bonus, does the illusion count as a monster? If yes, can you use a wandering monster and another monster from your hand to increase your bonus?

This happen in a game and the player said, "If I cast an illusion of a monster to give me a bonus, then the monster I'm fighting thinks it is a monster and a wandering monster would do the same." Thanks for you help!
