Asmodee changes components replacement policy, Stegmaier comments

Asmodee and Fantasy Flight Games have been known for their highly generous parts replacement policy in recent years (albeit subject to the prudent legal caveat that they're not obliged to do this - they're just being nice about it).

Recently, Asmodee has published an announcement that their direct-to-gamer replacement service will be modified to a "show proof of purchase to your retailer" model. Asmodee will compensate the store owner on its supply end with a complete game.

While some user feedback has been negative, a lot of users did acknowledge that the prior arrangement was skewed very much towards the generous side of the spectrum in the industry.

Jason Stegmaier (possible spelling mistake - excuse mobile typos) provided a blog post about the cost to the board game makers of replacements:

Apparently it came to over US$40k last year - a staffer's salary.

As gaming economics continue to favor lean budgets, it seems the fragile balance adapts further.
