Re: Gaming Ballistic - Posts other than GURPS (PotG)
Since my original forays into tinkering with the combat and narrative mechanics in D&D5, I've written a combat simulator to look at how quickly two combatants can drop each other using my rules assumptions.
I've found out a few things, which have sent me back to . . . not the drawing board, but the tinker board, at least.

I at one point experimented with adding 1/2 or 1/3 of Base Attack Bonus to AC, under the idea that a 20th level fighter with Dex X and a 1st level commoner with Dex X wearing the same armor should not be equally easy to hit

Re: Gaming Ballistic - Posts other than GURPS (PotG)
What happens when merely being disadvantages doesn't properly describe how deep in the poop a PC has stepped? A fun conversation with Tim Shorts and Peter V. Dell'Orto led to the concept of Stacked Disadvantage. We thought it sounded cool, and turns out that the math backs that up - it's a useful addition to the already-elegant Advantaged/Disadvantaged 5e game mechanic.

I playtest my Heretical D&D rules. They do not suck. In fact, they were a lot of fun.

The Heretical D&D project got a few more playtests in, and they still are working as intended. What did I learn - mostly about spells - this last time?

Do you have a visceral, hateful reaction to d8 Thieves? Are they that much different in 5e than the d4 Thief from BECMI?
Yes and no - it all hinges on one basic assumption.

Re: Gaming Ballistic - Posts other than GURPS (PotG)
If you've been following Gaming Ballistic at all since its start in late 2012, you'll have noticed that over the last six months, my posting velocity about GURPS has slowed down, especially in the last few months.
I have been writing. Writing an RPG based on SRD5.1, but with notable deviations in both the rules and setting from similar games. The game will be called Dragon Heresy (formally, Dragon Heresy, A Fantasy Roleplaying Game). I have made substantial progress in the draft and the end is in sight. For those that might be interested, I've posted a major status update today. Writing Update: Dragon Heresy starts to see the end

Re: Gaming Ballistic - Posts other than GURPS (PotG)
The Dungeon Grappling Kickstarter
The Dungeon Grappling Kickstarter is now live What is it? First and foremost, this book contains rules based on Open Gaming Licence content from several editions of the industry’s most popular RPG to make grappling fun, exciting, and easy to play.dungeon-grappling-cover-mockup-2 It contains rules and examples from three different flavors of the most popular fantasy RPG – from S&W, PFRPG, and Fifth Edition – in order to finally give grappling its due as a method of combat. It’s a short supplement – right now it clock in at about 40 pages Don’t take this short blurb as entire story, though – go read the pitch. How Risky is This? Given the manuscript is done, the layout is well advanced, the indexing is in the process of being entered into layout . . . the only thing that is not done is the art.layout-example-1 And that’s what the Kickstarter is for. I’ll be spreading the 16 (or 20, if stretch goals are hit) pieces through four artists, so each one will be making 4-5 pieces each. The art direction will start as soon as the project funds at the basic level, so delivering on or ahead of schedule should be achievable unless something truly unforeseeable happens. Please help me out This is Gaming Ballistic’s first product, deliberately small to get experience with the process and show people that I’ve got the project management chops to handle it and deliver on time. That being said – this is the real deal. I’m excited about this product and I think it’s at least as good as any such rules that have been published to date, and better than most. I’ve been using them with great success in my trial campaigns since February for Dragon Heresy, and the “control point” methodology formed the core of GURPS Martial Arts: Technical Grappling, which Peter Dell’Orto uses to great effect in his Felltower Campaign, which you can read about over on Dungeon Fantastic. So I’d very much appreciate your support. And I’d really appreciate your sharing it everywhere that you can, because folks can’t buy it if they don’t know it’s there. Thanks!

How hard would it be to use this with B/X D&D?

Re: Gaming Ballistic - Posts other than GURPS (PotG)
VERY easy. I use Swords and Wizardy as one of the examples, and if your monsters have Hit Dice, Hit Points, and Armor Class (which they all do) you're covered.
