It was standard practice, in my experience with the SCA, that anytime a heavy combat demo was done for the public, we tried to get the most acrobatic people who were in the SCA to put on demonstrations of just how little plate armor would hinder you.

I do say most acrobatic, because while I could show off by doing jumping jacks, pushups, running, and simple rolls in armor, I can't do cartwheels without armor so...

But my experience was that with properly fitted armor, even with those who insisted on trying to get it as accurate as possible, it really didn't limit your mobility much. At least for gross mobility. Fine manipulation with mitten gauntlets... not going to try cooking with them on.
