More or less, yeah. As a side note, the comments on how the fight actually went for most players (running around in circles, throwing occasional potshots, and chugging copious amounts of healing potions) got some chuckles out of me.

In short, separated blade allows for extra tacticool options.
Build it so the blade and a portion of the haft can be detached (roughly more akin to a plug bayonet than a socket bayonet), and you've got yourself a detachable sword. You'll want to give it crossguards, but then it's a decent idea to do that anyway (both for aesthetic reasons - it's more clearly a sword on a stick with a crossguard up there - and for practical reasons, so crazed foes can't run themselves through to reach you).

Eh, I'd expect all such mages to already know a spell that handles that for them, although I suppose this might be a good option in a no/low mana area (or a very high mana area, if the mage fears critical failures). Indeed, I'd expect such a spell to be amongst the first such a mage would learn. Said spell probably gets rid of the waste of familiars as well.

Two Dimensionalator - A tube that fits over one end of the staff and looks like a handle. Activate to compress your staff into an incredibly thin plane, except for the handle section at one end. Works like a fine greatsword with AD2 while activated.

Flexinator - a red silk string with a small red wax ball on each end. These balls will adhere to each end of a wizard staff if applied there, and make it work as a longbow.

Jet Turbine - Jet spells originating from this staff do double knockback.

Missile Wrack - This staff can "hold" up to 6 missile spells of the same type (they still count as "spells on"). These can subsequently be fired in one turn using the rapid fire rules, with a recoil of 2. Variants with different capacities and recoil values exist.

Understaff Wand - A short wand attached underneath one end of the staff. The wand is frequently elementally aspected to a specific college which may be different from the main staff. May also be detached and used separately in event the main staff breaks or malfunctions.

How about a double-staff where you take a pair of 2-yard staffs (separately enchanted) and bond them in the middle so that it has a total length of 4 yards, allowing you to do things like do a running slam where you bash 2 foes in the neck with your fire-enchanted staves?

I was thinking more like a 12ft pole. You make 2 wooden staffs and then I guess you would find some way of affixing them while leaving their tips exposed so that 1 hand can touch both tips simultaneously.

You actually make a pair of them (4 staffs total) to wield 2 handed for maximum flexibility!

Staff-a-Hoop - attach these bronze caps over the ends of your staff. On speaking the command word, your staff will bend into a hoop.
  • While you hula this hoop area spells you cast on your own hex get an extra hex of radius for free. (If it matters, the extra radius is in the center, so the center 7 hexes are all at "radius 0.")
  • If placed upright on a relatively smooth surface, the staff will roll after you, following at a distance of 1 yd.
  • The staff can be thrown frisbee-style for 3xST/5xST yds. Base damage is Thr-1 cr and acc is 0. You can also "load" a spell into the staff and it will target anyone hit by the staff from an effective range of 0.

Nah, you need a 4-part staff-chuk so it can Reach up to 7 hexes away...

Measuring Runes

Speak a command word to "switch on" a series of glowing numbered runes all along the staff, making it a big ruler instantly.
