[Campaign Inspiration] What surprising things are owned by royalty
Link to an article about "surprising things owned by Queen Elizabeth II. (Note, I visited the page with an ad-blocker on, so I don't know the level of intrusiveness the ads will be. It may not be worth visiting if it's like most places I visit without an ad blocker on my hone...)
Some interesting things here. Considering she rules over a diminished empire, quite a lot of stuff packed into the UK. I figured it might provide some inspiration to those who want to "flesh out" a royal family. Will probably have to ramp up for a space empire, or scale down for a medieval empire.

Of course, for those that really like detail, there are layers of what she owns in what right: there are somethings, like the Tower of London, that belong to the crown and are the property of whoever is monarch, some that are her own personal property and some that belong to her in right of other titles (Head of the House of Windsor, Duke of Normandy … not to mention things like Queen of Canada/Australia/Mann … that sort of thing...).

On paper, she's still one of the most powerful rulers in history. A long-ruling royal family will accumulate things that reflect the individual interests or obsessions of various ancestral rulers. For ex, if the current emperor's great-grandfather was fixated by cars, there might be a museum's worth of classic cars on the grounds of one of the palaces. If the emperor's great-great-great-grandfather was an amateur zoologist, the Royal Zoo might be an immense complex dating back to that time.

I know they're not the Queen, but some British Army officer's messes have a wide variety of stuff they've pinched over the years - the Sapper's mess at Chatham has, amongst many other things, a huge tapestry of "The Reich", about 8'x30' that they nicked from a Nazi HQ somewhere and the KRH have a silver po they inherited from the 14th Hussars, who nicked it from King Joseph Bonaparte's royal coach after Vittoria. They use it as a toasting cup. Presumably royal collections also have similar miscellanea... Last edited by The Colonel; 06-16-2020 at 06:44 AM. Reason: 14/20 Hussars apparently got rolled into the KRH a while back... |

Oh, yes. We have a lot, especially from when we looted Prague during the 30-Years War.

Was it then or during the Northern War when they wrote that charming song about the Swedes coming, taking everything and breaking the windows, from which they have taken the lead and made bullets with which to shoot the peasants?

Sounds like the Thirty Years' War. According to Grimberg, they still scared kids with "the Swede" in parts of Bohemia. This would have been during the 1920s.
