Default Cosmic Payload vs Gizmos

Gurps Powers suggests that taking Payload with +50% cosmic is a reasonable way to store things in thin air. At 1.5 points per level, how do you feel this compares to Gizmos (5 points per item per session)?

Gizmos is more then just holding stuff its about having that special thing you could really use right now
Payload with Cosmic is less cinematic in that sense and more of a Super Power or Magical ability.

It helps that you don't have to specify Gizmos beforehand. Also a Gizmo cannot be found while a Cosmic Payload is just undetectable by normal means.

Preselection of the items is required for cosmic payload. You have to definitely have access to the item before you load it.

Gizmo, any object you reasonably could have in your possession is available when you say you have that object. In a Supers game I was in, a mannequin turned into a golem was stopped by a gadgeteer who 'just happened' to have a spritzer bottle full of solvent which he sprayed on the painted mark that animated the golem.

Tell me, would YOU have had a solvent spritzer in your cosmic payload pocket?

Edit: 'Reasonable'='remotely plausible justification' in this case. The GM pretty much has to rule you can't have had it to stop you from pulling whatever it is out. ie you could happen to have your wife's cell phone which she left behind, after your cell is broken or taken from you. You probably can't pull out one of the four surviving original copies of The Magna Carta frfom your pocket. (See Snatcher for that!).

Very fairly.

Gizmos are intended for small items, which fit in a coat pocket -- practically speaking, that limits them to about 5-8 lbs., so the comparison is to Payload 3 for most people (or 4.5 points). So, given the similar prices:

Payload can be used to store any combination of items that will fit in the space. You can change them out as often as you want, and stick new things in there. You must track the items in your Payload and can only pull out whatever you put in.

Gizmos are only usable once per session, and for one item (or reasonable combo). However, you can pull anything reasonable out, including things that you did not list on your inventory.

So the two actually do very different things, even though they can be used to fulfill the same "power concept".

To use gambling terms: Cosmic Payload is a set hand, Gizmos is a wild card.
