Would Pdfs of the various Cultures of Transhuman Space.
What it says on the tin.
Would Pdfs detailing the Culture of the Main Belt, the Subsea Cities, the major terrorist groups, or the Majority Cultures Movement, be a worthwhile way to explore this setting.

The Deep Beyond probably gives too much attention to the cultures of the Main Belt, considering that they are less than 0.001% of the transhuman population. A detailed PDF on Singapore would be much more interesting, especially since it would likely involve 100x as many people and an economy that is likely 100x as large as the Main Belt (Singapore has a nominal per capita income equivalent to that of the USA). Heck, there are probably neighborhoods in Singapore with more residents than most Main Belt societies.

I mean a Transhuman Space: Singapore. While there would likely be a short history section, Singapore in 2150 would likely have 100x as much adventuring potential than the Main Belt (more money, more problems, as they say).

A far better argument for a Singapore PDF than it is against a few PDFs on the exotic books and crannies. Yes, London, Singapore, Mumbai, Sao Paulo, New York, that's were the main action is. Subsea cities, Belter towns, little cities in the deserts of Mars, those are were much of the exotic flavor is.

Re: Would Pdfs of the various Cultures of Transhuman Space.
I imagine that 2150 Singapore would be much more exotic than communities in the Main Belt. Frontiers communities are likely going to be quite similar, as surviving against the threats of the Void is the first concern, making money is the second concern, and being creative is a distant third concern. Anyway, as a stateless society, Duncanities would have a real hard time of surviving, so it is unlikely that they would be doing anything interesting.
One of the things that bothered me about the Duncanites is that they are technically stateless people, so they would not have the right to register their copyrights or patents in any national patent office. Corporations in China, the EU, the USA, etc. could easily ignore their copyrights or patents, as the statist courts would likely not side with stateless individuals except when it came to basic human rights. In fact, Duncanite corporations would have no legal standing in any court, as they would be stateless corporations and have no legal right to operate, so their owners would have no liability protection and any nation could see their assets because they would be a legal nonentity (without even the basic protections granted to a stateless person). |

Re: Would Pdfs of the various Cultures of Transhuman Space.
Of course, but I would want a more realistic portrayal of the challenges that arise from living as stateless individuals. Without the protections of anything more than basic humanitarian laws, they would have no legal recourse against corporations who stole their copyrights or patents. Without citizen/resident registration within any state, they would not technically have any legal identity, which would mean that they could not be a legal recipient of money transfers or other forms of payments.
Of course, a small nation like Singapore could offer such stateless individuals legitimacy in exchange for financial considerations. Perhaps the Duncanites decided that a small state was less dangerous than a large state and all of them are officially residents of Singapore. Duncanite copyrights and patents would then be registered through the nation of Singapore and Duncanite corporations would then legally registered under Singapore laws. It would make for an interesting connection between the two cultures. |
