If a card doesnt have a gold value is it an ITEM? Can i place it down sideways to avoid Charity? Can the thief Steal it ?

That is how I understand it. If it does not have a gold point value, "no value" does count, then it is not an Item. There are cards that you can lay down that have no gold point value, an example would be "Really impressive title" Thief can steal any item that does not say "Big", because it would be considered small.

No, because he can only steal "small Items", no gold value=no item. This is how I understand it.

The exact phrase "No Value" where you would normally see a gold piece value is an actual gold piece value, which is what was being said. If there is no actual value represented on the card, then the card does not represent an Item, it can't be stolen, and it can't be played sideways to be used later.
