I would say that he sees the house, and he identifies it as house-shaped, and knows its general position, sufficiently so that he could try to aim a ranged weapon at it. To recognize details—to know that it's a house and not a bank or church or tavern, or to see if it's occupied—I'd recommend a comprehension roll, which is made vs. IQ. Some details would require a skill roll instead: Architecture or Connoisseur (Architecture) to identify the style, Observation to look for defenses or watchmen.
