What about the aliens?!
Its only a question of time before the martian ethereal civilization attacks our dreams. |

Which is no more or less than what humanity faced for most of its history

Re: GURPS Fifth Millennium
Thats a very good question, with TL12 Biotech, the solar system would probably be much more hospitable to colonists, with crazy TL12 things terraforming all sorts of envyroments, and by the time the campaign starts, its very possible that several autosuficient colonies would exist in mars and other places.
Reason to get there in the first place could be scarce, but with the help of AIs and the adventurous spirit that humans always had, I doubt it wouldnt happen unless there were something that prevented it from happening. |

Re: GURPS Fifth Millennium
Latin plurals in English are becoming old-fashioned. The plural of "actor" is "actors", not "actores".
Some people still prefer them — I think that they are elegant myself, and gave them up only reluctantly; but it is not necessary to correct someone who uses English grammar in English.

It hasn't showed up yet, so far as anybody knows.:) It would probably come from beyond the Solar System. A generation or sleeper ship carrying alien sophonts showing up near Pluto would not break any of my tech assumptions. That doesn't mean I'm going to do it, but it's a good example of a big historical event that would not require a massive paradigm shift in the technology or science on Earth. |

For some reason I'm reminded of what Earth was like in Simmon's Illium and Olympos (which is neither conservative nor especially hard).

Re: GURPS Fifth Millennium
The former. Of course I'll need to hash out just which things count as incremental TL improvements and which are new tech appearing at TL 10. there was a bit of discussion over that matter in the other thread.
