Default Lost In Dreams [Yolanda]

Yolanda Washington had a strange dream that night. She dreamed of a strange, prehistoric forest, with filled with ferns. She dreamed of people in the forest, creeping through the bush, armed with bows and arrows. The people where simple tunics, and their skin is dark -- not dark like hers, but a strange grey color, like that of a pencil. Their hair is black and strait.

She dreamed of an outpost of some sort, with men walking around it, in drab military camo. They are armed with a wide variety of guns, and many of them have visors. There is a discussion, and they pile into a vehicle -- a heavily armed, multi-terrain vehicle that isn't really a tank.

She dreams of flashes of light. Some of them are followed by the smoke and debris of explosions. Others are simply brilliant flashes of light. Among the noise and the smoke, she sees a group of people wearing camo that looks less military than what she saw before. While the first group was without exception Caucasian, this group is more mixed-- but Asians seem to be the most common. They are launching weapons, but one of them is much more effective than the others. Most of the group is responding with laser fire.

One of them is sitting in a vehicle of sorts. The vehicle is floating about the ground, and the woman is sitting just inside. The whole thing seems to just bounce bullets and shrapnel. Then a lone laser beam catches the woman. Yolanda doesn't see the exact injury, but the vehicle crashes to the ground. The members of the team react in horror, scattering to the four corners of the wind.

Yolanda wakes up to the rain. Not the sound of rain, but rain on her face. The sun is just coming up, and she's on the cold, muddy, ground. And she has no clothes. A groaning sound comes from nearby.

A rain drop falls into one of Yolanda's eyes as they blink open and she bolts up onto one elbow. She wipes her eyes with the back of her free hand, unwittingly streaking mud across her face. Then she begins to hazily look around, taking in her immediate surroundings.

It takes a few moments for the realization to sink in: this isn't her apartment! "Oh hell no," she exclaims, shooting the rest of the way up to a seated position. Then the second realization: she was naked! "Oh heeelll no!!"

There is a moment of panic as she quickly checked herself over: no visible injuries. She draws in a deep breath and forces herself to relax. "Everything is going to be fine, girl," she reassures herself, "just need to get to a phone."

Reaching up, she gathers her mud slicked hair behind her head before realizing in dismay that she doesn't have a hair tie. Yolanda glances around quickly with hope of seeing her belongings nearby. After a few moments, her hands fall to her lap and she lets out a defeated blast of air that blows some rain water off her lip.

Something about that makes Yolanda smile just a little despite the situation. She exhales another blast of air, blowing more water off her lip. There is the briefest gasp of a laugh and then the chattering of teeth as a shiver runs through her body. She rubs her hands on her arms in an attempt to keep warm.

The groaning sound finally catches her attention and snaps her into action. "Is someone there,” Yolanda calls out excitedly, pushing herself up off the cold, muddy ground. Half crawling, she stumbles off in the direction she thinks the sound is coming from in order to investigate.

Her surroundings are reminiscent of the dream she had earlier: the weird plants are everywhere. She can see the cloudy sky -- the forest is not so dense as to have blotted it out. The sun is near the horizon, sending some rays of illumination into the clouds.

She doesn't have that much trouble keeping warm -- Particularly for April. the air had a warm feeling to it, in spite of the water.

The sound is coming from not too far away. A young asian woman is lying in the mud. Unlike Yolanda, who was naked but in good health, this person has on clothing but seems to be in a bad way. Yolanda can smell the blood seeping into the girl's clothing from her side, where a very poorly wrapped bandage is failing to stop the bleeding.

The girl has a canteen of water at her side, and Yolanda can tell from other stains on the clothing and the clothing type in general the girl usually walked around with a pack, but all that was gone now. The clothing looks very similar to the clothing worn by the mixed group in her dream. except for being covered in blood of course.

The girl is not very lucid, but does seem to be conscious. On hearing Yolanda's voice, she stammers "M-Maddy"? In a faint and confused voice.

As Yolanda approaches the young woman, the memory of the dream comes flooding back to her. Another glance at her surroundings confirms that she appears to be in the place she was dreaming of. “What the,” she mutters under her breath, finishing the thought with a less than family friendly word.

This isn’t the time to ponder such things, though, and she shakes it off while kneeling down beside the woman. “Don’t worry,” she says, in a well-practiced calm, “I’m here now.” Her own messed up predicament is far from her thoughts now, as Yolanda focuses on trying to save the young woman’s life.

Yolanda peers down at her hands: not exactly sterile, but they will have to do. “I’m gonna try and fix that bandage,” she explains, “Hopefully this ain’t gonna hurt… too much.” With that she bites her lip, digs in and attempts to rewrap the bandage in a manner that will slow down the bleeding.

"Maddy.. how ...here"

Yolanda quickly realizes the girl needs more than a simple bandage adjustment. She's lost a lot of blood, she's in shock, and the bleeding seems to be internal as well as external. It's a puncture wound caused by a bullet or something like that. Perhaps shrapnel. It doesn't seem to have torn a huge hole on one side like a modern bullet would have. perhaps it was a shot from a 22, there's an exit wound, so she won't know for sure.

She'd like to close the wound, but doesn't have the gear to do so. Why'd the girl throw off all of her gear? Of course, she's unlikely to have a unit of blood, which is what she needs, but a needle and thread, superglue, antibiotic, clean cloth -- all of that would be suitable.

To get the best results, she'll need to do some sowing. She debates briefly looking around for the gear the girl dropped, or trying to improve a needle from the local woods (Player decision here) -- or she could make do with bandaging and move on to the next of a myriad of problems.

Yolanda sighs heavily as she realizes the extent of the woman’s injuries are worse than she feared. She surveys her surroundings quickly to try and find something to help. “Damn it,” she mutters under her breath, “ain’t never a trauma center when you need one.”

She’s more at home in bricks and concrete, and to her eye the foliage is looking more hindering than helpful. “Did you have a pack,” she asks the woman, “Something with supplies? Which way did you leave it?” She’s not terribly hopeful of receiving a coherent answer and continues to scan the nearby terrain, looking for blood or other indications of the woman’s direction of travel.

If she can find a clue to go on, she is determined to head off in that direction with the hope of finding what she needs to save the girl’s life.

The woman mutters a few words in japanese. Yolanda doesn't know what they mean. She looks around for traces of blood. Blood is somewhat scarce, but footprints are abundant. She follows the boot prints about 50 yards and finds the pack -- and a lot more blood. The first aid kit has already been opened and is completely soaked and spilled all over the place. The pack is small, meant to keep necessities with its owner rather than for serious transportation.

Yolanda is able to get antibiotic, and she finds a sewing kit -- not what she hoped for, but a lot better than a stick in the forest. For clean bandages there seems to be an extra clean pair of socks, and there's a knife to rip them up with.

Yolanda is finishing gathering everything up when she realizes the wound wasn't that long ago. She hears a burst of three shots in the distance.

"Maybe this place ain't so from Baltimore, after all," Yolanda Washington remarks dryly to herself as shots ring out in the distance. She clutches the recovered medical supplies closely against herself, and starts to run back to where she left the injured woman. While she moves she makes sure to keep her head low.

"Don't you worry now, hon," she says as she slides up to the woman, "I'm right here so lets get you patched up." Yolanda hurriedly lays out the supplies and then takes knife in her hand.

She mutters a small prayer to herself before she begins to cut away any clothing and bandaging block access to the wound. Once that is accomplished, she does her best to clean the wound with any water left in the canteen. Then she proceeds to try and sew the woman up.

Yolanda settles into her work. Its really not easy without her proper instruments. She isn't sure how well everything will hold, but she stops the bleeding, at least for the most part. The words from the woman are mostly either in a foreign language or more of the word 'Maddy'.

As she finishes up her work, Yolanda lets out a sigh of relief. She gathers up any remaining supplies and stuffs them into what's left of the woman's clothing. "Don't you worry none, Sugar," she says, "We're going to get you outta here and you're gonna be just fine."

Then she kneels beside the woman and cautiously lifts her up onto her back, being mindful to minimize any disturbance of the new sutures. Getting to feet, Yolanda takes the women's weight across her shoulders in a fireman's carry. "Well now," she gasps with a strained grunt, as she kneels again to scoop up the canteen, "see... this ain't no thing."

With that she starts to stagger forward, finding her footing under the load. Yolanda does her best to move in whatever looks like it might have been the woman's original direction of travel. "Let's just hope that you knew where you were going."

((Yolanda will continue moving as best she can in what she believes was the woman's direction of travel. She'll stop for breaks as needed to regain her strength and check on her patient. If there's any water left in the canteen, she'll do her best to conserve it. She continue that routine until she comes across something interesting, something interesting comes across her, she can't physically continue, or night fall.))
