Super Munchkin - Rule Question, Aiding Monsters...
We had a game of super munchkin come down to this last battle. A level 9 guy, during his turn, draws a card and it wasn't a monster or trap card. So he decides, for the game win, he's going to throw down a monster from his hand and fight it, as per the rules.
However, the monster has a peculiar effect. It says that, instead of fighting the monster, you can give up one of your item cards to the monster and make it go away, and no one loses anything (but no one gains a level either). No one can stop the level 9 from fighting and killing the monster, so someone at the table decides they are going to give up one of their item cards to the monster to make it go away. Here is the dispute. The wording on the card said that in order not to FIGHT the monster, you can give it an item card. Which seems like only the person fighting the monster can give it an item to make it go away. The level 9 accepted no help in fighting the monster, so does anyone else have the right to give the monster an item? What do you think? |

The "you" seems to imply that it's the person fighting the monster. Besides, it also says "instead of fighting" it you can discard an item. The other player isn't fighting it so he can't discard to skip a battle he isn't fighting.

Yeah that's pretty much what I figured as well. The issue became, can someone else join in the fight without the other person's consent. Obviously resulting in someone flipping over the card table and many tears.

No. The person in combat must agree to the helper joining combat if he is losing the combat. If he is not losing then he cannot get a helper.

just like the wizard can't charm a monster you can't get rid of someone elses monster by discarding an item. As has been said you can not voluntarily join the combat and of course if they are level 9 and losing you wouldn't help them!!!

Re: Super Munchkin - Rule Question, Aiding Monsters...
This is because the rules say that the main combatant (the player whose turn it is) must ask for help. Anyone can offer, but unless the main combatant needs help (he can't get help if he doesn't need it), asks for it, and agrees to who is helping him and for what, no one can join the combat as a helper. Everyone's free to play cards to affect the combat, of course, but no one can actually join the combat without the main combatant's initial permission.
