How to spend money in D&D
So I've been playing in a D&D game for a while now. Through the adventures and related hi-jinks my character has gotten a bunch of gold from time to time. I've just added whatever my portion of the loot is each time to my total which has resulted in my character having 2730gp and I have no idea what to do with the money.
Setting in Forgotten Realms, and the character is a elven Ranger currently at level 7. 5e. |

Mostly seconding Anthony, though I would grab a breastplate if you don't have one yet. Xanathar's Guide to Everything also introduced adamantine weapons, which you might consider picking up.

My answer is the old PVP Online answer:
Blow it all on ale and . . . um . . . ladies of the night. (Or gents, your preference.) |

If we're going old-school, there's also the old "spend it raising an army answer". (Turns out D&D was originally a fundraising minigame, of all things, within a broader wargame.)

Heward's Handy Haversack is perpetually useful.

Buy a rural tavern and retire...
Buy some magic items. Make certain to have a prepaid resurrection with a reputable temple. Buy a noble title and sufficient land for your stronghold. |

Re: How to spend money in D&D
For small sums (and 2730 gp is small, on the scale of such things -- about 9 months' living expenses for a noble), the usual course is to convert it to more portable but still fairly liquid wealth: gems or jewelry.
A spyglass (PH, pp. 150,153) is 1,000 gp but 1 lb. Besides being immediately useful, it might serve as a bribe at some point. |

Re: How to spend money in D&D
If 5e is as DR happy as 3.x versions, 7th level is where many critters start having DR. Having a normal/masterwork item that can bypass DR is often far better then a +1 or +2 item that can't.
Better armor is rarely a bad idea. Pay attention to any negative mods to skills and such that armor can bring. Minor items like quivers that can hold 50 arrows vs the more normal 20 are useful if your DM makes you track such things. Sucks to be a bow using ranger that just shot the last arrow as the third wave of enemies rounds the bend. A selection of oddball potions can be a lifesaver. |

Re: How to spend money in D&D
I can't seem to locate that on D&D Beyond. EDIT: Nevermind, was looking in equipment not magical items.

As far as I can tell not a single character has bought a single magical item so far, excluding scrolls and potions. |
