Edge Protection rules update (draft)
Hi ho. Following several mentions in recent threads, I've posted a draft update of my old rules for Edge Protection (EP): a simple stat that models the battering of armor (and its wearer) without penetration. More combatty fun for the tweaker crowd.
Follow the URL in the sig. Comments and critique appreciated! (I've got tough skin with EP 15, so don't hold back.)

Re: Edge Protection rules update (draft)
This line of thinking is very interesting to me. I noticed that on your table has hypothetical values for magical types of armour. This would be a great mechanic for modeling something like mithril mail. Although mithril mail is not weightless, its lack of weight make it have a much lower DR. Plus, other fantasy settings have enchanted weighless elven mail and so forth. In that case, it might only have a DR of one (or even zero!) but because it is impossible to cut through it might have a sky high EP value. No mortal is ever going to cut or stab with you with it on, but it does not hurt any less when a giant thwaks you with a club! You just have some very interesting looking mail mesh bruises on you - if you survive the crushing damage.
I am going to think this over some more for possible inclusion in my game. Thanks for the write up!

Re: Edge Protection rules update (draft)
Excellent. Low-tech should incorporate this, atleast as an optional rule(which all supplements hould be considered, imho), alongside increased armour DRs, decreased armour weights, and armour damage rules.
It's funny, you know. In a high-tech campaign, there's always somethingto spend your money on. In a low-tech campaign, once you have all yourpersonal gear, it's pretty much just wait ntil lyou can buy an army... Low-tech should have just as much complexity, imho. |

Re: Edge Protection rules update (draft)
Right. But we need somebetter ones to allow people to play low-tech games, whether fantasy or historical that don't suck.
