Ah. I'd never encountered them, so I missed that.

You've never encountered Kris-mass cookies?

Not as such, no.

A quick google says they are not unknown in the UK.

Google "Christmas tree biscuits UK" and you'll see some.

Love the work you put into these guys, but I'd hate Anwahto in a game. Escort missions suck, especially with suicidal NPCs.

I have absolutely no idea how you get to "Kris-mass" from Anwahto, nor what joke Anwahto is about. The character is just very silly.

I know the little tree cookies, but "Christmas cookie" here talks more about them being baked around Christmas and featuring one or more of that medieval spice blend that ends up in everything this time of year, red and green things, various seasonal shapes, and a LOT of sugar and fat. Gingerbread men baked in December are Christmas Cookies.

Fir trees are one of the shapes, but so are circles with little stems on top to look like glass bauble decorations, angels, gingerbread people shapes, stars, crosses, and after a certain point all the novelty cookie cutter shapes you have in the drawer that aren't blatantly associated with another holiday.

No argument on the silly. As for Kris-mass:

A wavy-bladed dagger is a "Kris." Religious Ritual allows you to conduct a mass. The measurement allows you to measure things (although, admittedly, not mass, but you can get it from weight.)

There's some other Christmas themed bits.
Anwa ahto ~ "Gift maker"
Meryalė ~ holiday
Lossė ~ snow
(Elvish from online Tolkien dictionaries.)
Loves sugar and cold
Connoisseur (Woodwork)
Rations are Christmas tree shaped biscuits

My thought was that their was so much weirdness that someone would twig and be amused, but in general, it appears to have been a worthless joke and a not very interesting or useful NPC.

Sorry folks.

I think the joke has too many moving parts. I got the kris, and spotted that the weapon names were Tolkeinian. He was clearly supposed to be a Christmas elf of some kind, but it looked as if there was something more specific to it that I wasn't recognising.

Don't be discouraged. There ought to be a few people on the edges of the dungeonering fraternity who aren't really suited to it, and he fills that slot just fine.
