I just remember what I read on Wikipedia. I don't 100% trust that site, but it's usually reasonably accurate.

The voice over was making an odd assumption, but stating it as fact. Some animals have been known to adopt juveniles without having just given birth, especially since some adopters were male.

I remember something similar with a cat we had, she had a litter of kittens, then she added 3 happily suckling baby rabbits to her litter. A couple of days later there was 2 baby rabbits, the next day 1 and the day after that she had eaten the last one....

We had one intact male cat that tried to care for his nephew kitten. Going so far as to block his wandering near the edge of the bed for safety.
