Trojan Horse
My friends and I came across a problem today when playing Munchkin. It probably woundn't have mattered except for 3 of the 4 playing were level 9. Anyways, Player A played the Duck of Earl and rolled a 3. This allowed him to pick up two cards from the discard pile. He chose the treasure pile. Player B then played the Trojan Horse. The Trojan Horse prevents any treasure from being drawn if not used along with a monster, which in this case it wasn't. We were stuck on a decision and ended up saying NO TREASURE for Player A. So the question, is their a ruling on this?

Re: Trojan Horse
According to my card, rolling a 3 for the Duck of Earl roll would result in a face-up Treasure and a face-down Door being drawn. Those would both normally come from the decks rather than the discard pile. If the player were a Cleric, he could choose to resurrect the Treasure from the discards, but the Door would still need to be drawn normally. Duck of Earl also used to have different text, but from this thread, it seems that the old text didn't allow you to draw cards from either the decks nor the discards. Are you sure you have the correct card? Perhaps there's a third version of the card I don't know about...
Anyway, Trojan Horse says it can be played (with or without a monster) whenever a player is about to draw Treasure cards. Thus it could be used on a roll of 3 for the newer text of the Duck of Earl, meaning the player would draw a face-down Door and would not draw the face-up Treasure. In your case, assuming you have the right effect of taking two discards (even though I cannot find any card with that effect), things may be different. I'm not totally sure, but I believe that taking cards from the discard pile is not considered to be 'drawing', so if that was the stated effect, I don't think Trojan Horse could be used. |
