Custom Car Wars Maps
As someone who's just getting into Car Wars, I'm eager to create my own arenas. I'd be curious to see what other fans have created over the years to get an idea for what is and isn't viable.

Re: Custom Car Wars Maps
I'm pretty sure the Arena book is available in PDF from the online store.

Re: Custom Car Wars Maps
I've been using inkscape to overlay grids and counters on google maps of real places.
I have also been using paint to generate simple representations of roads and arenas (using them as a background again for inkscape to add the counters as an overlay. |

Re: Custom Car Wars Maps
SPARK has a couple on our Arenas download page. Nothing too fancy.
I've also drawn an aquaduel arena, but never bothered to post it. Most of my arena work has been taking the existing arenas and redrawing them for printing at 1.5x scale.

Re: Custom Car Wars Maps
Check out the SWAT cars wars pages for links to all kinds of car wars pages that owen has saved over the years and posted everything to his webpage and keeps updating as things come out. i dont know the linkoff hand buts its easy to look up online as the the "swat car wars page".
I know nova has some stuff along with some other arena on the swat page and other that are linked. |

ckosacranoid: Thanks, Jason, for suggesting my Web site. You have always been supportive of SWAT HQ for over 15 years.
ChromeCaddy: SPARK has several arenas on its Web site, and NOVA has a large collection of arenas. A few links to arena collections in addition to my Web site are listed below. (The Arena Watch page needs a long-overdue update of its links.) Offline, I also have many arenas no longer on the Internet. Seattle Washington Autoduel Team Headquarters (SWAT HQ) http://www.seanet.com/~owenmp/swathome.html SWAT HQ - Car Wars Arena Watch http://www.seanet.com/~owenmp/arenas/index.html SWAT HQ - HVD Flashfire Arena Circuit http://www.seanet.com/~owenmp/hvd-ffac/index.html SWAT HQ - HVD Hot Asphalt Arena Circuit http://www.seanet.com/~owenmp/hvd-hac/index.html St. Paul Area Road Knights (SPARK) http://www.cwspark.org New Omaha Vehicular Association - Arena Watch http://novacw.com/nova.htm http://novacw.com/arenas.htm

Re: Custom Car Wars Maps
Something you will find in existing designs, and a feature you would do well to incorporate in designs you make, is a sense of symmetry.
Maps routinely allow for 8 different cars, and it would be prudent that no car have a tactical advantage based on initial position. Drive offensively. Curt |

Re: Custom Car Wars Maps
If you're playing in regular Car Wars scale and want to create your own maps I recommend using easel pads with 1 inch grids. They're large, fairly inexpensive and of course have light 1 inch grids over the entire sheet.
