Seems odd giants should do so much better with boulders than with giant sized broadswords or axes or hungamungas to me

Interpolating from "Improvised Weapons" on Supers p 120, a 270 lb unbalanced throwing weapon would do around sw+18 damage. For a ST 75 giant, that's 10d+20, or 16d-1 cu, versus 12d+2 for a thrown rock. Seems pretty sensible to me.

He would do sw+8, or 10d+8 (roughly 12d+1) with a 32 lb, 2" diameter and 4 yd long steel rod wielded as a broadsword. Still seems sensible to me.

What SM is this giant?

If he is SM+4 firing a SM+4 longbow he will do what, 8d+10 imp?

As long as he isn't doing damage thtowing scenery to make actual.weapons obsolete

If a SM +4 giant buys Fine SM +4 arrows, does the +1 for fine get multiplied?

Hmmm, if it gets multiplied probably multiplied for SM -6 pixies also, so pixies don't bother with fine arrows

Got books handy now

For ST 60, a Sw weapon 9d+Weapon bonus, vs 11d+1 for optimum rock
For ST 90, a Sw weapon 12d+Weapon bonus, vs 15d for optimum rock
For ST 120, a Sw weapon 15d+Weapon bonus, vs 23d+2 for optimum rock
For ST 150, a Sw weapon 18d+Weapon bonus, vs 29d+2 for optimum rock

Now, weapon . . . say a ST 60 giant can do a SM+4 throwing axe, Sw+10. ST 90 giant is ready for SM +5 weapon at Sw+15, and Sw+20 for ST 120 and ST 150 (SM+6)

9d+10 cut vs 11d+1 crush? Axe is better
12d+15 cut vs 15d crush? Axe is better
15d+20 cut vs 23d+2 crush? Is 20d+1 cut vs 23d+2 crush . . . axe is not strictl better, but definitely still often a good choice
18d+20 cut vs 29d+2 crush? 23d+1 cut vs 29d+2 crush . . . much closer now

Session 6 of New Dawn involves sneaking into an orc controlled castle and discovering that orcs are not very nice people.

Sessions 13-16 of New Dawn involves, well, a lot of complicated stuff.

The PCs are rescuing their Gods from an extra-dimensional prison while at the same time undergoing tests of faith to demonstrate their worthiness to act as servants of the Gods. I did a lot of deliberately weird stuff, like combatants fighting while standing on the walls or ceiling and a bunch of Portal (the video game) style portals in a room filled with ice and fire. It was a lot of fun, and also the payoff for a bunch of subtle clues I'd been setting up since the start of the campaign.

Two new posts on Mass Combat:
The Fragile Feature represents troops that are good when they're winning, and that perform badly after losing:

Positional Warfare is a proposed house rule that reduces casualties in order to make Positional Bonus more important. It also reduces the chance that a force will get wiped out without retreating, meaning that battles and campaigns are less decisive:

Sessions 17-20 of New Dawn in a single, huge, post with maps.

These sessions involved a lot of stuff, but the big strategic picture was that when the PCs took two weeks to reorganize their forces and gain some new troops out of training, the orcs took that time to consolidate their forces into two armies, each larger than the PCs' augmented forces. The PCs relied on cunning and trickery to defeat the orcs. There was also a lot of role-playing and the introduction of two new players and a possible co-GM/Adversary.
