[IW] Armistice
During Homeline's World War I, a historical event known as the Christmas Truce of 1914 occurred when German and British soldiers stationed in Belgium spontaneously declared a truce during Christmas. Artillery went silent, and soldiers from both sides crossed No Man's Land to shake hands and exchange greetings. The highest levels of Command on both sides forced the truce to end and combat later resumed.
On Armistice, those orders were met with stubborn defiance by soldiers completely tired of bloody warfare and field officers who could no longer in good conscience lead offensives against the same men they'd shared a drink and cigarette with as gentlemen. And thus, despite the best attempts of the high brass to prevent it, Peace Broke Out, and the Great War ended in a whimper. The current year is 1922, and Europe has mostly rebuilt from the War's devestation. Christmas is even more widely celebrated, regarded as a celebration of Peace on Earth and Goodwill toward Men. |

Quote:
Suggestion: This Earth is in Q7. Both High Commands make the fatal mistake of using force to put down the two 'mutinies'. Joining sides, the mutineers best the forces arrayed against them. Basically the best men and materiel of the war is now fighting against their governments. When the dust settles, the government of France falls, Kaiser Wilhelm abdicates and only the Channel and the Royal Navy keep revolution from spreading into Britain. The speed and the high efficiency of the new revolutionary governments makes Infinity wonder if Centrum isn't behind this.

To be honest, this was mostly holiday-related musings, but I like your version, Captain-Captain.
