ATE and Reign of Steel
How useful is ATE in playing a reign of steel game? On the one hand, it is set after "the end", and people do try to scrimp by, but on the other the apocalypse is active and on going. I'm curious how compatible the two are.

Re: ATE and Reign of Steel
It depends a lot on which zone you're in. You wouldn't use it for London or Washington (unless they're the home bases your PCs return to between adventures), but it would be great for Denver or Paris, one of the areas with scattered bands of humans, no real economy, and so on.

With only ATE 1 out... it looks quite compatible.

Re: ATE and Reign of Steel
I absolutely had Reign of Steel in mind when I wrote both GURPS After the End books, so I tried to avoid any assumptions or rules that would work against an ATE+ROS combo. That said, the one big assumption ATE does make is that the game takes place in "a post-apocalyptic wasteland." As Roger pointed out, this means you'll get less use out of it if your game is set in one of the few places where life is pseudo-normal.

Re: ATE and Reign of Steel
I'm most interested in zones Beijing and Tokyo, for various reasons. Very non-traditional wastelands (particularly Tokyo), but wastelands non the less, I suppose. The gear situation might be strange -- civilization is alive, but you aren't a part of it.
Its good to know that Reign of Steel is intentionally kept in mind as the series is being built. And I suppose that I'll have to wait for book 2 for a full analysis.

And if your game is set in New Zealand, the "mutations" can be as gonzo as you like.

Re: ATE and Reign of Steel
Fwiw, I really like what I've seen so far, but I'm holding off making any real comments until I see the second book. I do find myself looking for time to run an AtE game, though. :)
I especially like Freakishness.
