Re: [Pyramid 3/33] Reverse-Engineer Basic Set Weapons
Actually, it does - any time people co-operate or otherwise pool BL for any purpose for which BL is used, it's all done at the BL level. Two ST 10 guys != a ST 20 guy, and the rules reflect this.

Re: [Pyramid 3/33] Reverse-Engineer Basic Set Weapons
Simple addition. Not the amount of operations that is required to figure how a cranequin affects the interaction of the user's ST and the crossbow's MinST.

Re: [Pyramid 3/33] Reverse-Engineer Basic Set Weapons
First attempt:
TL3 Medieval Light Crossbow Draw Weight: 300lbs Min ST: 14 (drawn by ST10 w/ one-foot stirrup and belt-claw) Draw Length: 11in Damage: 1d(2) realistic/1d+2(2) cinematic Acc: 3 Max Range: 424yds Weight: 3.7/.08 Cost: $150/$11.25 The prod is a 36", recurved, round, yew self-bow; inspired by the aforementioned linked document. I artificially bumped up the cost to match the BS crossbow; otherwise, it's about $64. Anybody see anything I've missed?

Re: [Pyramid 3/33] Reverse-Engineer Basic Set Weapons
IMHo, the increasing loading time multipliers already include part of the non-linear relationship of basic lift and ST:
Code:
ST loading time Loading time multiplier ST multiplier squared and doubled x1 2 x1.5 9 x4.5 4.5 x2 16 x8 8 2.5 25 x12.5 12.5 x3 36 x18 18 |

Re: [Pyramid 3/33] Reverse-Engineer Basic Set Weapons
I'm still having some issues building crossbows, mostly centered around the "shorter, stubbier" composite crossbows. I finally found a couple of good examples that actually had some friggin' dimensions (apparently, not easy to find), here and here. I'm presuming a horn/sinew composite—looks right, at least. I've had to extrapolate what the thickness of the prod is—looks like a D-shape; my calculations have them around 1.7in-2in. Also, I'm guessing at the draw-length; around 10in or so. I have no idea what the draw-weight is in these examples, except to say that they're believed to be hunting pieces, so 3000lbs is probably too much :P
I cannot, for the life of me, get a design that fits these specifications that works at all. I feel like I'm missing something important, here. Someone else want to give it a go, and show me what I'm doing wrong?
