Re: Shape Earth+Earth to Air=Stone Armor?
For a non-metallic magical armor try Tree Bark Armor from Magic - Plant Spells p. 20. It provides DR 5 to everything except the face and feet. 25 pounds is also pretty light for that kind of protection. The maintenance cost is also affordable enough to keep it up for an hour (or even two in a pinch). Layer on DR +1 or +2 from the Armor spell and you're pretty well suited for anything the average monster is going to throw at you.
The only problem is that Tree Bark Armor has a prerequisite count of 7, but you are pretty free in your choices from the Plant college as long as you include Shape Plant and Essential Wood. |

There are historical cloth and leather armours that are just as protective as metal. You just keep adding layers till you get the protection you need. The problem is that they weigh a lot more than an equivalent item made of metal.

Re: Shape Earth+Earth to Air=Stone Armor?
Wouldn't learning Resist Lightning (Magic p 196) be a lot easier? Total invulnerability to lightning bolts is better than a bunch of heavy armor.

Re: Shape Earth+Earth to Air=Stone Armor?
I'm gonna do that as well, but this guy does a 5D essential lightning twice a turn. So Resist Lightning only halves that damage.

Start with D3 wooden armor. Cast Essential Wood to make it DR9. Wear layers of leather under it as necessary. Enchant top layer with Resist Lightning.

Keep in mind that making anything of quality or utility with the Shape spells also requires a suitable crafting skill. Otherwise you get a roughly humanoid hollow statue with some gaps in it that you hope will let you move.
