I've also heard "where he is?", even "where he be?", as well as "where he at?", omitting the verb entirely.
"Where is he from?" asks a completely different question from "where is he". Why would I bat an eye at that?
But are all those examples of poor grammar over a century old too?
It just struck me as odd as if I read a two hundred old poem using Valley Girl speech.
But while interesting, I don't see how the story counts as Weird.

Pictures surface from a mysterious ballet performance on the set of the 1950 film "Destination Moon."

It's not in the script, and one one connected to the film recalls any dancers being hired.

A rocket-assisted Hercules C-130 existed. It was meant to be capable of landing in the space of a soccer stadium, to rescue the hostages during the Iran crisis.

It failed in a test, but only because of a timing error in the firing of the rockets. With more training the concept is probably... difficult, but viable.

Okay, that's one of the more awesome things I've ever seen.

I bet you could pull something like that off, today, with better computerized timing and modern rocketry.

The dust-off would be one hell of a kick in the pants, though.

Some staff at Cern decided to relive their undergraduate days by staging a mock human sacrifice in front of the statue of Shiva. I can't think how that could go wrong ... https://www.theguardian.com/science/...ists-suspected

They built a supersonic bomber. And named it after gigolos.

Supposedly the US Air Force wanted to name the B-1B bomber the Excalibur, until learning that this was a popular brand of condom, and finally settled on the name Lancer, which aircrews don’t like and don’t use. Aircrews call the B-1 the "Bone"...

I like Hustler. It lets me imagine that the Pentagon is a rocking place with deliciously decadent parties. You know, a place where it's been 1975 for more than forty years.

I could be wrong, but that's my head-canon.
