I've also heard "where he is?", even "where he be?", as well as "where he at?", omitting the verb entirely.

"Where is he from?" asks a completely different question from "where is he". Why would I bat an eye at that?
But are all those examples of poor grammar over a century old too?
It just struck me as odd as if I read a two hundred old poem using Valley Girl speech.
But while interesting, I don't see how the story counts as Weird.

A rocket-assisted Hercules C-130 existed. It was meant to be capable of landing in the space of a soccer stadium, to rescue the hostages during the Iran crisis.

It failed in a test, but only because of a timing error in the firing of the rockets. With more training the concept is probably... difficult, but viable.

Okay, that's one of the more awesome things I've ever seen.

I bet you could pull something like that off, today, with better computerized timing and modern rocketry.
