And I miss the bell bottoms ;) Half joking... One thing for sure--I prefer the cleaner and sharper lines of Melee versus some of the more "sketched"/less sharp style of some of the other microquests counters. I'm cool with a bit more details (like in these new ones)--as long as the style is still nice and clean. And I love quality pencil drawings--as long as they're still sharp and detailed, as opposed to "too prototype/sketched" looking. I'm looking forward to seeing more :) |

Edited thread title to remove the SHOUTING. Please be sparing in your use of all-caps. Thanks.

Right-oh Andrew, understood. I'll make a mental-note of it for Headlining Thread Titles in the future; thanks.

Re: FIRST PEEK at the NEW COUNTER ART from LIZ DANFORTH for MELEE 5/18/2018
I appreciate the graphic simplicity in keeping with that of the original counters. The wizard has the dynamism of pose that jazzed me up about the original Melee swordsman w/shield, the one with the rapier and main gauche, and the archer. Danforth's new spear-wielder is less successful.
I'm disappointed with the new dragon; the wings interfere with understanding a sinuous body. A wingless worm type dragon might read better. Better yet would be re-imagining the dragon in profile. I always thought the dragons were the weak link in the original Wizard counters. We don't get a top-down view on the anythings else--be they wolves, bears, or giants--so why dragons (and in DT2, lizards)? As for Melee counters versus those of the microquests, I loved the Death Test (1, not 2) counters. |

Top down counters?
Quote:
I'm afraid I disagree with you here. I quite liked the top down view. In drawing my own counters, I have lots of top down views. Horses, lizards, giant bugs, elephants, etc. I even have some 5 hex ogres from a top down view. (Getting the perspective right was tough, but they look great.) I was not impressed with the counters of Death Test. Perhaps my printing was not as sharp as yours, but the DT counters had many fine lines which were blurry and harder to read than the more schematic counters in Melee and Wizard. Warm regards, Rick. |

I think they’re indescribably beautiful (classical reference).

Human figures are like the counters (side view). Some one hex counters are top down, and others are side view. Generally as I go to multi-hex figures I try to do top down views. I also like the OGRE classic counters. warm regards, Rick. |
