The last three or four episodes were straight up science fiction adventures - except the characters were acting like regular people not Utopian 'perfect people' of TNG (you know, your average group of gamers around the table...) - Ed C.

GURPS is too crunchy. I dislike savage worlds math. Traveller is a poor fit for the tech; and depending upon which edition, for character generation from poor to abysmal. MGT combat feels wrong, too. I would consider adapting either Age of Rebellion, Firefly, or Star Trek Adventures, or maybe Far Trek or Where No Man has Gone Before. Firefly can handle it well, but it would be a hard slog to get set up. Age of Rebellion would need new ships, but otherwise, the system and character generation is pretty good for the needed skillsets. Any of the star trek games would work, tho' Modiphius' Star Trek Adventures would be the easiest to adapt... tho' I'd want to make a few adjustments to the threat/momentum and complications... but I'd do that to run STA again anyway. |

Which is why, if I went with Cortex, I'd probably go with Classic (Serenity) vs Plus (Firefly). It's a bit easier to use.

It's not at all the same engine as Cortex Plus. Really, the two lines are totally different engines. And further, it wouldn't save much work vs Cortex Plus, where a weapon or tool is just a bonus die, or Star Trek Adventures... where it's a –1 Target number or a chance to make a roll that you otherwise wouldn't. you have just as many advantages, disadvantages, and skills to tweak, too... converting ships is equally as onerous either way... |

But a game engine specifically designed for things that originated as visual stories - BESM, Star Wars, maybe even Toon - might work better. I might well opt for BESM.

Having seen a few episodes, I would probably still go with Lasers and Feelings.

FATE CORE, I think. Maybe with some inspiration from Diaspora for gear.
Maybe Ashen Stars, depends on how the procedural elements shake out |

If you ignore the ads and look at the actual episodes - each episode gets progressively more serious. There is No Need for a 'humor mechanic'. The characters are just like regular people - like most gamers do when playing an RPG that has a sci fi setting. - Ed C.
