Default Discarding cards

If a Munchkin plays Contemplate Your Navel...or really any card that says discard X number of cards...are they required to show the other players what those cards are? Granted if you are discarding only one cards it is going to be obvious what it is.

You are not required to show those cards. You can show the backs so they know that you are discarding the right number but there is no requirement to show the fronts.

I am not sure I agree with this. Andrew has stated in other places in the forums that the discard is public knowledge, specially with a rule that prevents the player from going into the discard. Also, the order is important for powers such as the Cleric's Ressurrection.

Edit: here is a post to support that vision.

Though not to infer that a player may casually look through the discard pile at any time right? My group rules that you must use a "dumpster diving" type card to be able to do this so you may not look through discards to decide if it is worth using your "dumpster diving" card.

The rules say you cannot look at the discards, unless you have a card or ability to do so.
